Some backyard landscaping tales:

There are lots of people who just go out and do backyard landscaping, without any idea what they are doing, why they are doing it, or how they are going to deal with the mess they can easily create.

One guy we know who thought that having enough equipment would give him the know how to do his backyard landscaping actually took a weed eater to a bed of bamboo, and then did the same thing to poison ivy patches in his yard. Needless to say, by the end of the season, while other people’s tomato plants and flowers were spreading beautifully, this fellow had a gigantic tangle of bamboo on his hands, with poison vines crawling all over it, making it virtually impossible to enjoy his yard at all, for years, until he paid pros to come in and rip it all apart for a tidy sum of cash.

Another backyard landscaping nitemare happened when they forget to put drainage into a wall they built, and over the winter, the melted snow caught behind it turned to ice, expanded, and the wall fell over. But it did not just mean they had to buy a new wall. The wall made of river rock fell over into the driveway, during a wedding party, and wiped out about half a million bucks worth of Lexus, Mercedes, Honda, and BMW body parts like doors, fenders, glass, and those precious chrome details that got all scratched up in the melee.

So keep in mind that not all backyard landscaping projects end the way you dreamed they would, and always consult the experts, or become more expert at it yourself, before attempting anything that might potentially backfire on you.
